While researching the connections between the USAF and UFOs, I was struck by the possibility that many sightings could simply be misidentified terrestrial aircraft. This idea went a step beyond the conventional with the release of a video showing an F-35 Lighting II crashing onto the deck of an aircraft carrier. For a brief moment, this incoming plane appears to be a flying saucer, but the illusion is quickly shattered as the craft crashes on the carrier's deck.
The Unidentification project consists of a poster and a series of models. The poster depicts the front silhouette of every plane officially flown and operated by the United States Air Force. This poster is the key through which the models can be understood. When looked at head on, the models are the front silhouette (minus rear stabilizers and antenna) of their real world counterparts. From any other angle, however, the model appears to be a flying saucer. This illusion is achieved through 3d modeling software that has rotated the wing and craft details into a physical object with little similarity to conventional aircraft. Examples of these models, along with the poster, are visible here.
